There are many things that I have learned how to do in my lifetime. Some of them are necessary for survival, such as eating and walking, others are for advancement, such as using certain appliances or certain skills. Both types of skills are just as important as the other, because they enable you to develop and grow as a person. I would have to say that one of the abilities that I have that I am most proud of is my ability to dance. I have been dancing and have loved dancing my entire life, and it’s something that has brought me through rough moments in my life. If I was ever stressed out or having a bad day, I knew I could just put on music, dance around, and the outside world would just seem to disappear for a while. Dancing is such an amazing thing; being able to express your feelings and emotions using your body and what is around you is such a powerful thing. Although dancing is a fun activity for me, it’s something that I have worked very hard for a long time to become better at, and it’s something that I continue to work on every single day.
I have been dancing my entire life, but when I was younger I began to develop my ability. I started doing gymnastics and dance when I was around 5 or 6; I figured that the gymnastics would help with my flexibility and the sense of movement. I have since stopped gymnastics and taking dance lessons, but I continue to perform and do musicals in which I learn and receive more and more dance training. I think that the only way to develop a skill or an ability is to continually do it and practice. If i didn’t continue to dance, there’s no way I would have become good at it. It’s an ability that a person can be born with, but it’s all something that a person can learn and develop over time. I love dancing all of the time, whether it be performance dancing during a show, dancing with others during a school function, or just dancing to loud music with my friends at home. I don’t know when I became interested in dance, it’s just something I’ve been doing my entire life. I used to love watching other people dance, and one day I just got up and started doing it myself. I have always been a big fan of music, and while listening to music, dancing just came naturally.
I have had many people play roles in the development of my dancing. There have always been people around to help me, which definitely makes developing my ability a whole lot easier. Dance and gymnastics teachers to help me learn skills and routines and improve my knowledge of dancing, friends and cast mates to work on routines and moves with, and family and friends always there to support me and provide me with the necessary tools that I needed to succeed. One of the most important role models in my life when it came to dancing was the drama director at my school. Her and I were very similar to one another, so we bonded and became very close. There were many times throughout my high school career that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do a certain role or various dance routines or something that I would get down on myself about it, but she was always there with words of encouragement and told me that I could accomplish anything, whether it be in regards or dancing, performing, or just in general, if I believed in it and I put my mind to it. She was always there for me, and I believe I am a stronger dancer because she was always there pushing me and giving me guidance.
There are tons of people out there who have the same abilities, but they way in which we use our abilities makes each and every one of us unique. My love of dance is something that has not only been apart of my social life and free time, but it’s something that has carried over in a possible career choice and has had a huge part in me meeting the people that have become some of my closest friends. My ability to dance and my love of dancing is something that I believe will be with me forever.
